The CATCH award for excellence is a scheme for recognising when one of our employees really goes above and beyond. Heidi Evans, Cleaning Supervisor,  was nominated and then subsequently presented with the award at our team meeting.

Heidis manager, Paul Snowden said of her nomination “Heidi goes above and beyond in her role always putting her team and CATCH before herself.  She maintains extremely high standards at all times and nothing seems too much for her. She will drop everything including her holidays if necessary to cover for her colleagues for any unforeseen circumstances if required.  She is extremely pleasant and cheerful and interacts well with all on site and is a real pleasure to have around – a well-deserved award!”

On receipt of her award Heidi commented, “I really wasn’t expecting this award and I was very surprised to learn I had been nominated, but also very pleased to accept it. As I said I was very surprised but I a very happy to receive this. I work with an exceptionally good team and I have a great boss Paul, who I enjoy working with, he brightens my day”.

Congratulations Heidi from all at CATCH!

CATCH is pleased to announce that Martin Jones, Health. Environment, Safety & Quality Manager at Yara is taking over the role of Chair for our members Environmental Managers Network, following long-standing chair, Tony Edwards Retirement after 14 years!

Martin said,  “Thank you, I am very honoured to be appointed as Chair to the Environmental Managers Networking group at CATCH.  Having worked in various Environmental roles within the Chemical Industry in the Humber area I am very passionate about the synergistic relationship of industry and the environment.  I have seen industry improving its direction and strategy in respecting and enhancing the environment.  My intention within this role is to work closely with industry, nature partners and regulators to ensure any barriers are removed so each party can work together because, I believe environmental protection and sustainability are mutually achievable goals. Yara are fully supportive of me in this role and we ourselves are committed to a serious environmental sustainable growth program in both the short and long term.  I look forward to working with you all and will really appreciate your support as I grow into the role”.

Following his departure, Tony Edwards commented, “It has been great chairing the Network since 2007 – someone else should have taken over a long time ago! A fresh perspective is always good and I wish Martin Jones of Yara well in taking over from me. The Network is run by CATCH with help from Humber Nature Partnership. Many thanks to Katie Hedges, CATCH for organising everything and to Darren Clarke, HNP for his support.  – The Network brings together industries from around the Humber, regulators,  consultants and NGOs. We have had many good presentations keeping us on our toes on environmental developments and hearing participants outline their environmental ‘great leaps forward’ (and some woes).  There will be plenty for the Network to consider over the next year or so. There is the outcome of the COP26 Climate conference towards the end of this year and the Environment Bill expected to be enacted in the autumn. The latter should include the creation of the Office of Environmental Protection, set new long-term targets and have measures for air quality improvement, waste management, producer responsibility, water resources, and drainage and sewerage.

I intend to continue my participation in the Network if you allow me, and Humber Nature Partnership. Over the next academic year I am slimming down my lecturing at the University of Hull so moving towards proper retirement – more walking in the Dales, photographing waterfalls, going round art galleries, and all that! I may become a bit more ‘sustainable’ – less car and more bus, train, and foot travel”.

Katie Hedges, CATCH said “It’s with great sadness that we say “farewell” to Tony, he has supported CATCH and our popular network for over 14 years, an amazing achievement! The team at CATCH and I wish him well in his growing retirement and wish to say a heartfelt thank you for all you have done”

“The group and I look forward to working with incoming chair Martin and we are looking forward to seeing how the group continues to grow and develop in the coming years”

If you would like further details in regards to the Environmental Managers group, please contact Katie –  katie.hedges@catchuk.org

Meet our new employees!

Over the last month the CATCH team has expanded with two new employees.

Lisa Kennedy is the latest new member to the CATCH team, here is a message from James McIntosh, Director of Skills.

“I am delighted to have Lisa join us at CATCH. Having worked with Lisa in the past, I know she shares my passion for developing people through training with a focus on quality of delivery and learner experience. As we enter our next phase of growth at CATCH, it is important we respond to the new way of learning and diversify our offer in line with our members and customers requirements in industry and Lisa is well placed to deliver on those projects.”

Mark Booth also joined the team at the beginning of May as the Training Delivery Manager. James McIntosh, Director of Skills, added a message:

“I am delighted to have Lisa join us at CATCH. Having worked with Lisa in the past, I know she shares my passion for developing people through training with a focus on quality of delivery and learner experience. We are excited to have two new members on board and looking forward to what the future will hold.

Wellbeing
Noun
the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy!

676 million people are affected by mental health issues worldwide

Wellbeing not only affects a person’s work-life but also their home life, fulfillment of personal goals, and a general feeling of control over their own future.

At any given time 1 in 6 working adults have symptoms associated with mental ill health (eg. sleep problems, fatigue etc.) which do not meet the criteria for diagnosis.

How many of these people are in your workplace? Are you providing them with the right support? If you have a workforce of 24 people – 4 are potentially suffering in silence….

CATCH has always been an advocate of mental health in the workplace and recently James, Director of CATCH Skills and colleague Jasmine, Business Support Co-ordinator, completed a workshop to become Mental Health First Aiders for CATCH. This means that colleagues can chat with a friendly face when they are experiencing challenges with their own wellbeing or mental health. Actively encouraging open communication, coupled with appropriate and helpful conversations, means that at CATCH we are able to create a positive, non-judgemental work environment for all.

“Did you know that every 40 seconds, globally someone takes their own life?”  A shocking statistic, says Jasmine, “by becoming an MHFA I feel that I am able to recognise the early symptoms of a mental health challenge, and are able to recommend routes and tools that are available to help.  By encouraging early intervention my colleagues will get better sooner and we as an organisation can support them on their road to recovery”.

“As a mindful employer it is imperative that we are aware of and recognise the symptoms of mental health conditions.  But also, that we feel comfortable enough to ask the question – are you ok and then ask it again – no, are you really ok? We are working to lessen the stigma attached to mental health to ensure that it is given the same attention as physical health in our organisation”. James continued “The pandemic has put mental health, flexibility and work-life balance at the forefront, both for our current employees and for future recruits. By being supportive of employees’ wellbeing both personally and at work, we hope to create an open and understanding environment for all, where no one struggles alone”.

If you are interested in becoming a Mental Health First Aider or would like to know more about the MHFA scheme CATCH offers in Partnership with Start Within – please contact the team at info@catchuk.org
