Interconnection with hydrogen production facilities, salt cavern storage, and neighbouring hydrogen schemes will enhance the East Coast Hydrogen Network System . The programme will stimulate investment of  ~£1bn in the re-purposing and development of new hydrogen infrastructure, supporting 1000 jobs, and enabling over 5GW of publicly announced hydrogen production projects to export their hydrogen across the region to 4 million homes and 40,000 larger users of gas.

In line with the UK Government’s Hydrogen Strategy, that means that East Coast Hydrogen could deliver 25% of the targeted investment, 10% of the targeted jobs and 100% of the 5GW production target.

CATCH was pleased to be the host site for a meeting of the National Infrastructure Commission on 23 September, where they launched their leveling up recommendations along with North East Lincolnshire Council.  After the meeting the Commissioners were given a tour of the CATCH site.

The ConCom Scheme is led by a committee of industrial client members, which ensures that the scheme is relevant and fit for purpose in today’s industrial environment.

The team sat down with Committee member Desmond Wright, engineering manager, Lenzing Fibers, and asked how important was the ConCom scheme to him.

I’ve worked at Lenzing Fibers since 1992, starting as a Mechanical Technician before progressing to Maintenance Team Leader, Reliability Team Leader, Mechanical Engineer through to my current position of Engineering Manager.

How important is the Concom Scheme to you?

I first starting attending the Concom client/contractor meetings in early 2000 as a temporary stand-in for my Engineering Manager at the time who had been instrumental in setting up the Concom scheme.

Lenzing’s number one priority is to ensure all our employees who work on the site do so in a safe manner by ensuring we follow all current regulations, guidelines, and best practices.   This same principle is applied to all contractors who work on the Lenzing site therefore we need a process that delivers on our expectations.  Concom has been the chosen process to achieve this for over 20 years.

I have seen a dramatic improvement over the years in the way safety and competence is viewed by the HSE and in return by both clients and contractors.  Concom is a scheme recognised by the HSE.  It is proactive in its outlook, has a proven audit process, and provides a forum for open discussions between clients and contractors to ensure high safety and competence standards are embedded into their process.

We are moving forward with our SME Climate Hub Commitment!

We committed to taking action, through changes in our own workplace, using the tools and support offered through the SMEClimateHub to achieve our plan – to half our carbon footprint by 2030 and to be net-zero by 2050!

In response to our commitment, Paul Snowden, Head of Operations, said “ I recently attended a training course – carbon for business, delivered by Tunley engineering. The course helped me to understand how to measure and benchmark our carbon footprint and then put a plan together to reduce it.  We have already put in a number of measures including, distributing new recycling bins across the site, renegotiating our waste contract to support with recycling and shared these measures with our on-site tenants. We have also made provision for Electric charging points in this year’s budget and we are working on proposals to install solar panels on our roof space across the site. Ultimately our plan is to half our carbon footprint by 2030 and to be net zero by 2050”.

The CATCH award for excellence is a scheme for recognising when one of our employees really goes above and beyond. Heidi Evans, Cleaning Supervisor,  was nominated and then subsequently presented with the award at our team meeting.

Heidis manager, Paul Snowden said of her nomination “Heidi goes above and beyond in her role always putting her team and CATCH before herself.  She maintains extremely high standards at all times and nothing seems too much for her. She will drop everything including her holidays if necessary to cover for her colleagues for any unforeseen circumstances if required.  She is extremely pleasant and cheerful and interacts well with all on site and is a real pleasure to have around – a well-deserved award!”

On receipt of her award Heidi commented, “I really wasn’t expecting this award and I was very surprised to learn I had been nominated, but also very pleased to accept it. As I said I was very surprised but I a very happy to receive this. I work with an exceptionally good team and I have a great boss Paul, who I enjoy working with, he brightens my day”.

CATCH is pleased to announce that Martin Jones, Health. Environment, Safety & Quality Manager at Yara is taking over the role of Chair for our members Environmental Managers Network, following long-standing chair, Tony Edwards Retirement after 14 years!

Martin said,  “Thank you, I am very honoured to be appointed as Chair to the Environmental Managers Networking group at CATCH.  Having worked in various Environmental roles within the Chemical Industry in the Humber area I am very passionate about the synergistic relationship of industry and the environment.  I have seen industry improving its direction and strategy in respecting and enhancing the environment.  My intention within this role is to work closely with industry, nature partners and regulators to ensure any barriers are removed so each party can work together because, I believe environmental protection and sustainability are mutually achievable goals. Yara are fully supportive of me in this role and we ourselves are committed to a serious environmental sustainable growth program in both the short and long term.  I look forward to working with you all and will really appreciate your support as I grow into the role”.

Following his departure, Tony Edwards commented, “It has been great chairing the Network since 2007 – someone else should have taken over a long time ago! A fresh perspective is always good and I wish Martin Jones of Yara well in taking over from me. The Network is run by CATCH with help from Humber Nature Partnership. Many thanks to Katie Hedges, CATCH for organising everything and to Darren Clarke, HNP for his support.  – The Network brings together industries from around the Humber, regulators,  consultants and NGOs. We have had many good presentations keeping us on our toes on environmental developments and hearing participants outline their environmental ‘great leaps forward’ (and some woes).  There will be plenty for the Network to consider over the next year or so. There is the outcome of the COP26 Climate conference towards the end of this year and the Environment Bill expected to be enacted in the autumn. The latter should include the creation of the Office of Environmental Protection, set new long-term targets and have measures for air quality improvement, waste management, producer responsibility, water resources, and drainage and sewerage.

I intend to continue my participation in the Network if you allow me, and Humber Nature Partnership. Over the next academic year I am slimming down my lecturing at the University of Hull so moving towards proper retirement – more walking in the Dales, photographing waterfalls, going round art galleries, and all that! I may become a bit more ‘sustainable’ – less car and more bus, train, and foot travel”.

Cleaner – Immediate Start

CATCH is recruiting for a Cleaner to be responsible as part of a team for cleaning and supporting the Operations team on site. The role is very important as it is needed to support the business with additional cleaning requirements for the site due to Covid-19 and general site cleanliness.

A suitable candidate will have a good working knowledge of H&S whilst working in an industrial environment and have excellent customer service as there will be interaction with customers daily.  It is essential that the job holder has previous cleaning experience and will be efficient, organised, have excellent communication skills and take pride in making sure everything looks gleaming.  Due to the nature of the role it will require completion of a DBS check.

The role will consist of 20 hours a week during the hours of 16:00 – 20:00 each day Monday to Friday.

Caretaker

CATCH is a small team – but a big business, and we are looking for a positive, driven person who is not afraid of getting stuck in!

Due to the continued growth of CATCH, we are looking to recruit a Caretaker, within our Operations team.  We are seeking a highly motivated and confident individual to assist with the day to day running of the site. A suitable candidate will maintain high levels of Health and Safety and must have a practical approach to be able to carry about minor maintenance tasks.

The role will also include unlocking the site, turning off alarms and opening classrooms and offices. Carrying out room changes to suit client requirements and gritting of the site in winter when required.  The post holder will ensure they uphold the standards of the business and help to develop and continuously improve all working procedures.

The role is based at the CATCH Head Office in Stallingborough and the hours at 7am – 11am 5 days a week.

CATCH Skills Associate Technical Instructor – Mechanical

With the increasing expansion of our CATCH Skills training brand, CATCH are recruiting for an Associate Instructor with a mechanical maintenance background ideally gained from working on an industrial site. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a highly respected and rapidly growing training provider for the Process, Engineering, Energy and Renewables sectors.

The work will include developing and delivering technical training programmes and accredited courses.  It will also involve liaising with Senior Management across a large client base, qualification awarding bodies, external providers and associates.  The job is based at the CATCH facility in Stallingborough and the post holder will ensure existing and new training provision is designed and delivered to the highest quality, exceeding customer expectations. The role will also involve work on the clients site to deliver a number of courses across the UK.

Relevant experience and qualifications, such as a formal training qualification (or working towards this), are required. Also required is an understanding of training and development and relevant qualification systems.  The individual will also possess excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written.

The event is a series of two workshops in June, hosted by CATCH and delivered by Professor Andy Heyes of Hull University and in partnership Tim Sutherland MIMMM of Control Point Consulting.

The principal aim of the workshop is to offer decarbonisation support to regional industries, specifically those interested in sharing heat and cooling loads with neighbouring industries, businesses or institutions.

The workshop also intends to identify prospective partners who wish to shape an Industrial Symbiosis project within the Humber region.
