Wellbeing
Noun
the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy!

676 million people are affected by mental health issues worldwide

Wellbeing not only affects a person’s work-life but also their home life, fulfillment of personal goals, and a general feeling of control over their own future.

At any given time 1 in 6 working adults have symptoms associated with mental ill health (eg. sleep problems, fatigue etc.) which do not meet the criteria for diagnosis.

How many of these people are in your workplace? Are you providing them with the right support? If you have a workforce of 24 people – 4 are potentially suffering in silence….

CATCH has always been an advocate of mental health in the workplace and recently James, Director of CATCH Skills and colleague Jasmine, Business Support Co-ordinator, completed a workshop to become Mental Health First Aiders for CATCH. This means that colleagues can chat with a friendly face when they are experiencing challenges with their own wellbeing or mental health. Actively encouraging open communication, coupled with appropriate and helpful conversations, means that at CATCH we are able to create a positive, non-judgemental work environment for all.

“Did you know that every 40 seconds, globally someone takes their own life?”  A shocking statistic, says Jasmine, “by becoming an MHFA I feel that I am able to recognise the early symptoms of a mental health challenge, and are able to recommend routes and tools that are available to help.  By encouraging early intervention my colleagues will get better sooner and we as an organisation can support them on their road to recovery”.

“As a mindful employer it is imperative that we are aware of and recognise the symptoms of mental health conditions.  But also, that we feel comfortable enough to ask the question – are you ok and then ask it again – no, are you really ok? We are working to lessen the stigma attached to mental health to ensure that it is given the same attention as physical health in our organisation”. James continued “The pandemic has put mental health, flexibility and work-life balance at the forefront, both for our current employees and for future recruits. By being supportive of employees’ wellbeing both personally and at work, we hope to create an open and understanding environment for all, where no one struggles alone”.

If you are interested in becoming a Mental Health First Aider or would like to know more about the MHFA scheme CATCH offers in Partnership with Start Within – please contact the team at info@catchuk.org

CATCH hosted 80 delegates on the 10th March for the first Hydrogen Network meeting, as part of the Humber Industrial Cluster Plan project.

Silvian Baltac and Jason Martins of Element Energy opened the meeting with an informative presentation on Deep-decarbonisation pathways for UK Industry. Sharing their report for the Climate Change Committee for the 6th Carbon Budget which included a modeling tool for the Industrial Decarbonisation strategy for BEIS.  The report covers all UK industrial sites, sectors, and cluster-specific infrastructure.

Specifically, their report outlined, the uptake of Hydrogen across UK industry and the UK drivers, such as hydrogen production rates and variable hydrogen storage options. Plus an overview of the Hydrogen projects in the region such as H2H Saltend and the Gigastack project.  The presentation also covered why it is important to scale up Hydrogen production – such as retaining current industry, reducing the risk of offshoring, creating new jobs and attracting new investment whilst ensuring economic growth.

You can find the CCC 6th Carbon Budget report here – https://www.theccc.org.uk/publication/sixth-carbon-budget/

Next, we welcomed Simon Morris, CCO, HiiRoc who introduced us to their fantastic new plasma technology, that produces Hydrogen from Hydrocarbon feedstocks on-site, with their modular scalable system.  The process produces a bi product – Clean Carbon Black, that can be used in multiple ways such as a soil fertiliser, rubber and toner cartridges. Their solution provides a low-cost clean hydrogen solution, that enables clients to realise their low carbon ambitions.  The company aims to be a driving force servicing the energy transition and the regions net zero ambitions.

Katie Hedges, Head of Membership & Low Carbon Strategy at CATCH, detailed the recent success of the Humber Industrial Cluster Plan which has secured £1.7million from the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund to develop a plan for net zero by 2040.  The plan supports a range of deployment project bids that could see first end to end CO2 storage achieved by 2025-2027.

You can sign up to the Humber Industrial cluster Plan here – https://catchuk.org/industrial-decarbonisation/

The next network takes place on the 6th June 2021, if you have any questions, please contact katie.hedges@catchuk.org or lisa.buck@catchuk.org

Prax-logo.jpg

The Prax Group has announced that it has successfully completed the strategic acquisition of Lindsey Oil Refinery and its associated logistic assets in the United Kingdom, following the signing of an agreement in July 2020 to purchase the refinery from energy major Total. Prax has also announced the appointment of Luc Smets as General Manager of the refinery.

Covering a 500-acre site, and located five miles from the Humber Estuary in North Killingholme, North Lincolnshire, Lindsey Oil Refinery has an annual production capacity of 5.4 million tonnes. It is one of Europe’s most advanced refineries, processing over 20 different types of crude including, petrol, diesel, bitumen, fuel oil and aviation fuels, which are transported across the UK and abroad by sea, road, rail and pipeline.

With a strong track record of integrating acquisitions and managing assets in the oil value chain, the Prax Group is a long-standing and trusted partner of Total. The acquisition of the refinery will bring about new investment, and underlines the Prax Group’s determination to support the local economy and the wider community, whilst continuing to explore new business opportunities as part of its long-term growth strategy.

Sanjeev Kumar, CEO of the Prax Group, said: “Our long-term strategy is to be fully integrated across the oil value chain from upstream to downstream, and today marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Prax Group. The acquisition of Lindsey Oil Refinery is a natural progression for the Group, providing the opportunity to integrate the refinery and its associated product flows into the company’s UK distribution and retail footprint, which operates under the Harvest Energy brand. This will create unique opportunities for synergies with existing Prax-owned assets, as well as demonstrating our ongoing commitment to building a reliable supply chain to meet the needs of our customers for many years to come.”

The acquisition includes Lindsey Oil Refinery, the Finaline pipeline and the Killingholme loading terminal, together with shares in joint venture operations.
