This presentation will be split into two parts and cover two different but connected issues.

The first part of the presentation will cover some of the lessons that we have learned as Asset Optimization Consultants during our twenty years of implementing Risk Based Inspection Projects. It will cover some of the more common mistakes that can be made during an Implementation Project. In particular we will look at how our own methods and approach has been adapted to ensure that these mistakes are not perpetuated. We will examine in more detail our approach to training during a Project and how to choose the best Process Unit for the implementation of an RBI Pilot Project.

The COVID19 pandemic has changed how companies around the world operate and our business has been equally affected. The second part of the presentation will detail some of the learnings that we have made during the COVID19 pandemic. We expect this approach to continue well into the future and companies will need to embrace the software that is on offer and continue to adapt to work remotely. During this period, we have continued to support companies implement Risk Based Inspection projects and we continued to train personnel. We have learned some valuable practical lessons during the period which we would like to share with the audience.

Here at CATCH we have been working collaboratively with BMA, the Humber LEP and Humber stakeholders to develop a model to illustrate the future capability and functionality of a truly whole systems model to decarbonise the Humber industrial cluster.

The systems model will also serve as a dynamic and living model in the delivery phase of technology and infrastructure deployment, being capable of supporting multi-stakeholder collaboration and use / visibility. Its underlying principles mean it is fully scalable to a national level.

“Safety in Numbers – Is target risk really just a number?

The widespread use of quantified risk targets, and risk measures has led to a numbers based approach to the definition of how safe an organisation may be. Whilst the numbers help understand risk, safety encompasses much broader aspects of human-machine-process interactions which must be adequately considered.

This presentation will delve into how numbers are only a part of the safety considerations and how risk must be systematically managed through all life phases of an installation, by using IEC61508/61511 as context on how managing risk is much more than just numbers.”

Staying Safe when on site at CATCH

Here at CATCH we have continued to support our Member companies, clients, delegates, region and wider stakeholders throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We made a decision to close the CATCH site on 23^rd March and there has been no activity on site since then apart from essential care and maintenance. Our activity, like many organisations, has moved online and we have delivered a number of technical Webinars, skills courses and network events throughout the last 7 weeks. We have also continued our work on the Industrial Decarbonisation agenda, and in particular the Phase 1 activity of the ISCF Cluster Roadmap competition.

The online activity has been a way for us to continue to offer our services, but it does not make up for face to face events and training, especially in the vocational, practical skills space that CATCH is a specialist in. For this reason, and in line with Government direction, we have decided to reopen our site with effect from 1 June. Members of the CATCH team will be starting to prepare for reopening by implementing social distancing measures, reception procedures and cleaning and sanitisation regimes ready for 1 June. The team will also be undertaking delegate journey tests of the procedures to ensure that the systems work, in order to give confidence to delegates attending the site for courses with all of the onsite training providers.

Plans for the next phase once we have reopened include slowly and carefully building up the footfall on site in a measured way to ensure the safety of all delegates and staff. We also plan to restart our work on site improvements, including the upgrade and expansion of the Process Plant in conjunction with Reynolds Training Services. Other activity that has continued has included important improvements to our website. The CATCH Technical Services section of the website now highlights the vast capability of the CATCH Technical consultant base, and the Membership section details our exciting new Membership options. We have a lot to be excited about through these difficult times and we are keen to get started again to move away from the shadow of the crisis.

From all of us here at CATCH we wish our Member companies, clients, delegates and students all the very best and we look forward to seeing the CATCH site a bustling and dynamic environment once again as soon as we can all safely return to ‘business as usual’.

Technical Trainer

Due to the expansion of our CATCH Skills training brand, CATCH is recruiting a full time Trainer with either electrical, health & safety, mechanical, process operations, first aid and confined space backgrounds. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a highly respected and rapidly growing training provider for the Process, Engineering, Energy and Renewables sectors.

We require candidates from a variety of technical backgrounds and have a position available for a full-time role. CATCH Skills delivers a wide range of short courses mainly for adult learners looking to upskill or reskill. Our minimum requirements is for the trainer to deliver ECITB and City & Guilds Confined Space courses.

The work will include developing and delivering technical training programmes and accredited courses. It will also involve liaising with Senior Management across a large client base, qualification awarding bodies, external providers and associates. The job is based at the CATCH facility in Stallingborough and the post holder will ensure existing and new training provision is designed and delivered to the highest quality, exceeding customer expectations. The role will also involve work on the clients site to deliver a number of courses across the UK.

Relevant experience and qualifications, such as a formal training qualification (or working towards this), are required. Experience in the relevant area of expertise is essential. Also required is an understanding of the training and development and relevant qualification systems. The individual will also possess excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written.

CATCH Partner E3 Recruitment (E3R) is hosting an event in association with Brookson Legal on the IR35 Reform, a new legislation which will come into force on 6th April 2020.

What is IR35?
From April next year the obligation to assess employment status for tax will move from the contractor to the hirer/end user. The employer will need to exercise reasonable care when determining the IR35 position of any limited company contractor. An IR35 assessment process either managed internally or with external specialist support is required to ensure the status decision is correct. Blanket bans on the use of limited company contractors or blanket IR35 assessments should be avoided, although grouping roles together for the purposes of assessing status is acceptable.
