In response to the climate change emergency to carry out energy transition and net-zero carbon technologies and business, decision-makers and managers require better practices for risk management, data analytics, and quantitative methods to make better-informed decisions.

CATCH UK has signed a partnership with the International Institute of Professional Education and Research to bring to the UK, and especially to the Humber Region, professional qualifications, technologies, and advanced analytics to enhance teaching, learning, and professional development in the engineering industry.

This CATCH-IIPER partnership has been endorsed and sponsored by OSL Risk Management, OSL Consulting Engineering, and Real Options Valuation. We developed an online platform, “OSL Analytics Academy”, to enhance both online and on-site training programs in risk management, data analytics, and quantitative methods for multidisciplinary professionals. Note that all the technologies to be used during our training programs in partnership with IIPER and OSL Analytics Academy are already integrated into more than 300 universities worldwide, many multinational organisations as well.

The first professional training program in “Risk Quantification and Business Simulations” is already available for our members, supporters, and the general public. Therefore, more training programs are coming soon; for example, Project Risk Management, Decommissioning Risk, Project Economic Analysis, Company Valuations, Risk in Plant Operation, Operational Risk, and so on). Our vision with all these important allies is supporting both individuals and companies with the Humber’s industrial strategy, where professional skills and development need to be aligned with investments and growth opportunities.

I’m writing to let you know of a development with regard to the major highway works, which are now well underway on the A1173 between the CATCH roundabout and the A180 junction. You will remember works were suspended immediately after the COVID-19 restrictions were announced by Government. Since then work has started again on the CATCH roundabout.

Before going into detail, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your understanding for the duration of these works. We appreciate that the programme has caused varying degrees of inconvenience and rest assured, we have done all we can to mitigate this and will continue to do so.

A reminder too, that these works are part of the multi-million-pound SHIIP, (South Humber Industrial Investment Programme), which aims to transform the business fortunes of North East Lincolnshire, creating opportunities and jobs.

The detail:

CATCH roundabout: The first phase of the A1173 works was improvements to the roundabout outside the CATCH facility, mentioned above. This will be completed following a five-night closure for resurfacing. A full diversion route will operate between 7pm and 6am from the night of Monday June 1 to Saturday morning, June 6. Motorists will be asked to follow the diversion signs, which will guide them off the A1173 and through to the A180 at the Brocklesby interchange, via the A160. For those travelling to the CATCH roundabout from Stallingborough Industrial Park there is an additional loop that takes in Kiln Lane, Laporte Road and Queens Road.

In addition to this, we are in the final planning stage to start the next phase of works, which is the construction of a roundabout to allow access to the new Stallingborough Business Park – an initial start date in March was postponed due to the coronavirus restrictions. As soon as we confirm our plans, I will contact you again to ensure you are kept fully informed.

A letter from North East Lincolnshire Council and ENGIE in regards to the planned and ongoing works.

CATCH Coaching Collaboration with Windhover Management Coaching

From the very beginning, CATCH has been at the forefront of innovative training and business support solutions. Now, we are pleased to announce that we are working with Clive Rounce, the first General Manager of CATCH, to bring effective management coaching to our members and customers.

Coaching is a process in which the coach works in partnership with the coachee to help them draw on their own self-knowledge, experience and resources, developing their own thinking in order to solve problems, make choices or achieve success in a chosen activity.  It’s a proven way of helping people move further towards their potential.

There are still, however, many misconceptions about coaching, not helped by the term being loosely used in society to mean everything from a private tutor helping a child to prepare for an exam, to an elite sports guru.

It is not about the coach as expert giving guidance or bringing a secret methodology, nor is it a form of counselling. Coaching is different from mentoring where the focus is often on a more experienced person passing on their advice or acting as a career sponsor and champion.

Coaching is about a relationship of equals in a one-to-one conversation. It is about facilitating change and action on the coachee’s agenda and supporting development through questioning, challenge and support.

Perhaps, during these unprecedented times when many of us are working from home and being faced with new challenges and opportunities, it’s a good time to explore the benefits of coaching.

That’s why we are pleased to offer a free coaching taster session, to be delivered remotely by Clive, to the first ten CATCH customers to respond.

If you are interested, please contact holly.goodwin@catchuk.org to arrange your session.

You can find out more by visiting Clive’s website at www.windhover-coaching.co.uk.

Clive said: “I believe that coaching is a great way to support and enable people to develop and can be especially helpful to leaders and managers in their challenging roles. Having been involved with CATCH from the early days, for nearly the first 8 years, I am very pleased to be working with the current team who have continued to support industry with innovative solutions and services.”

James McIntosh, Director of the CATCH Engineering Training Partnership said: “CATCH was created to assist and facilitate all of the industry skills, competency and training requirements. This doesn’t stop at practical based technical training so I’m delighted that we are able to launch this initiative with Clive’s new venture to further support our members.”

University-of-Lincoln-Loss-of-Containment-2-e1584547644118.jpg

On 17th March 2020 CATCH Skills, hosted 80 University of Lincoln Engineering students for 4 days to take part in the ‘CATCH Experience’ programme. The students, who were in their 1st year of their degree programme, benefited from invaluable practical hands on experience. The aim was to demonstrate how their skills would be used within a workplace. The training included Introduction to Plant Process, COSHH/ Hazard Identification, DCS Simulator, Loss of Containment, Laser Alignment, Pumps and Flange Integrity.

“Practical experience” in a degree programme is very difficult to achieve yet is valued as extremely important by employers. The CATCH Experience Programme allows students to apply and transfer their Engineering theoretical studies into practical scenarios, within a safe and controlled environment. The students felt this experience “provided real life examples of equipment” and allowed them to “gain visual and hands on experience of the theory.” It allows the students to have an “insight to what a career in engineering would be like.” They felt the CATCH Environment was “welcoming and friendly and simulates the real world well.”

They continued to say the environment was “realistic” with the “right amount of professionalism.”

James McIntosh, Director of the CATCH Engineering Training Partnership said “We were delighted to be able to deliver such a varied programme for the University of Lincoln students at CATCH. It is great to see another University wanting to enhance their Engineering degree curriculum with a range of different practical based experiences so the students can find out more about our industry. The feedback from the students was that they enjoyed seeing how the industrial environment linked into their studies and that the hands-on experience was most enjoyable. CATCH has an excellent relationship with the University of Lincoln, and we look forward to working with them again in the future on a variety of projects.”

CATCH Skills approach to industry training is unique. Their Industry led, world class facilities hosts partnerships with multiple training providers including further education colleges and private organisations who are recognised as leaders in their field. Working closely with companies to generate programmes that offers solutions and cater for their training needs.

Based in Stallingborough, CATCH is an industry led partnership supporting the process, energy, engineering and renewable industries in Yorkshire and Humber. Catering for adult and student learning. Dear Customer;

The spread of the COVID-19 continues to dominate the news, with major implications across the globe. As you would expect, CATCH Skills continues to follow direct Government advice and guidance from Public Health England (PHE) and other leading organisations. At present the message is that all CATCH Skills upskilling courses will continue to be delivered as normal. We appreciate that some companies have imposed bans on travel and training off site and to that extent would like to commit to offering to move any places currently booked on training courses in March/April/May to a course later in the year. There will be no cancellation fee or additional fee for this service.

Please be assured that on site we are also taking various precautions onsite in line with advice from the Government and PHE. We would ask if any of your personnel who are booked on courses with us and have travelled to the UK from (or via) one of the affected areas listed on the government link below that they take note. If they travelled within 14 days of their course commencing and are displaying symptoms of the virus, then as a precautionary measure we ask that you please reschedule their training course
