Product Description

Aims & Objectives

The course will cover the current requirements of BS 7671 relating to inspection and testing techniques as given in IET Guidance Note 3. It covers methods of inspection and testing all types of installations as set out by BS 7671 and how to complete the required certification and reports to a professional standard.

Entry Requirement and Recommendations

Entry Requirements:
This course is for candidates who have previously achieved a Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification or similar.
You should have experience of single phase and 3 phase systems and have some familiarity with completing certification and/or reports.
Candidates must be at least 18 years of age.

Recommendations:
We strongly recommend that City and Guilds 2382 – Requirements for Electrical Installations is achieved prior to sitting this course, though this is not an entry requirement.

Content

This course is for candidates who have previous training and experience of inspection and testing within the electrical industry. You should have experience of single phase and 3 phase systems and have some familiarity with completing certification and/or reports. We strongly recommend City and Guilds 2382 is achieved prior to sitting this course, though this is NOT an entry requirement. All candidates must be at least 18 years of age.

The course will cover the following key areas:
o Requirements of Electricity at Work Regulations
o Requirements for safe isolation
o Requirements for initial verification of electrical installations
o Requirements for periodic inspection and testing
o Safe testing and commissioning of electrical installations
o Requirements for testing before circuits are energised
o Requirements for testing energised installations
o Interpretation of test results
o Commissioning electrotechnical systems and equipment
o Documentation, certification and reporting
o The course will cover the following testing methods relating to single phase and 3 phase systems:
o Continuity of protective conductors
o Continuity of ring final circuit conductors
o Insulation resistance
o Polarity
o Earth electrode resistance
o Polarity and phase sequencing
o Earth fault loop impedance including Ze, Zdb and Zs
o Prospective fault current
o RCD
o Phase sequencing
o Functional testing
o Verification of voltage drop

Assessment Criteria

Task A – Visual Inspection – 30mins
Task B – Periodic Inspection and Test – 2hrs and 30mins
Task C – Short Answer Questions – 1hr and 20mins

2 Hour On-Line exam – 120 minutes to answer 60 multiple choice questions using the BS 7671, Guidance Note 3 and On-Site-Guide books.
Certification – On successful completion of the course you will be awarded with the City & Guilds, Level 3, 2391-52, Initial and Periodic Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations Qualification.
