What weighs 80 tonnes and can normally be found 200ft in the air?
CATCH was really pleased to take delivery of a Nacelle from Siemens Gamesa at the end of October. Transporting the 80 ton piece of equipment from Siemens in Hull to CATCH was a huge logistical task that was overseen throughout by Iain Ritchie from Ritchie Services.
The nacelle provides a whole new dimension in developing the offshore wind training offer for the region and fits in with the CATCH model of using real life equipment and plant to support skills and competency development.
We would like to thank the Siemens Gamesa Training Centre in Hull for the very kind donation. The plan now is to protect the equipment from the elements and to work with our partners North Lindsey College to turn it into a first class training aid for mechanical and electrical training.
David Talbot, CEO of CATCH said ‘CATCH is very grateful to Siemens Gamesa for the donation of this great training aid. We can see a wide variety of uses for the nacelle and will be working with our partner, North Lindsey College, and other stakeholders to develop the equipment to its true potential. CATCH is a non-profit skills development organisation that is led by industry and relies on donations such as this nacelle to ensure that we can continue to provide relevant, up-to-date, contextualised training that is demanded by industry.’
