Did you know – We can travel to you?

Keith Eddom, our Technical Trainer, has travelled over 2000 miles this January to deliver world class training to our clients. From Staffordshire to Teesside and Yorkshire to the Isle of Man, Keith has not only delivered our ECITB MJI10,18,19 and Laser Alignment courses to clients, but also taken our specialist rig, equipment and materials to facilitate our signature real world training, with him too.  Keith said of his time,  “Working away 16 days out of 20 can be a challenge, however I have met some fantastic people on my travels, who were a delight to teach and I managed to sampled the local delicacies! Our Mechanical Joint Integrity suite of courses not only delivers the theory, but checks and teaches the practical skills.

Keith, who has been a technical trainer with CATCH Skills for 4 years has set a record within the team as he is our first International trainer! He has visited numerous client sites to deliver our mechanical training – he just has one request – a warmer location next time!

James McIntosh, Director of Skills/ COO, said “Seeing CATCH Skills continue to grow regionally, nationally and now internationally (just about!) is incredible considering the challenges we have faced in the past two years. Keith has been flying the flag for us delivering training on clients site and we appreciate how hard he has worked being away for most of the month. The highlight of the trips is when he posts his photos in the team WhatsApp chat of what he is having for his tea! The whole of the CATCH Skills team have had a part to play in this success and credit to all of them for its continued success.”

**National Apprenticeship Week**

Not sure which route to take?

We have 10 CATCH Science Manufacturing Technician apprentices available for a Teams call on Monday 7th Feb and Tuesday 8th Feb between 8.00am -4.30pm. They work for Syngenta, Lubrizol, BASF and Nufarm. They will be able to speak about the following:

Why they chose an apprenticeship

How they find out about the apprenticeship position

What was involved in the application and interview process

What a typical day at work looks like

What a typical day at college looks like

Followed by a Q and A session for your Yr 11, 12 or 13 students.

Whilst I appreciate not everyone wants to be Science Manufacturing Technician, I would be delighted to work with science classes or a cohort of hand-picked students who are considering an apprenticeship. I am sure any young person would benefit from speaking to first year apprentices about their experience.

If you would like to arrange a Teams call please email Debbie at: Debbie.lumb@catchuk.org

Changes to CCNSG Safety Passport

From 1st April 2022, the ECITB / CCNSG will no longer allow or accept the 3-month grace period currently given to all CCNSG Safety Passport Cards.  Delegates will be required to renew their card no later than their card expiry date, otherwise a 2-day Basic Safety Passport course will need to be completed.

With a significant number of sites refusing to accept CCNSG cards that have gone past the official registered expiry date, the rule change will ensure consistency across the industry as a whole.

The official statement from the ECITB can be viewed below –

Award winning skills provider CATCH have announced that they are set to boost the prospects of young people across the Yorkshire and Humber region by offering a suite of apprenticeship standards under their new brand CATCH Apprenticeships.

This exciting development will see CATCH deliver four apprenticeship standards, Science Manufacturing Technician (Process Operations), Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician (Electrical & Instrumentation and Mechanical),  Plate Welder and Pipe Welder. All CATCH apprenticeships will include a large amount of practical experience utilising the fully operational process plant facility and engineering workshops at the National Centre for Process Manufacturing (NCPM). The Science Manufacturing Technician apprenticeship is also delivered at the Process Manufacturing Centre (PMC) in West Yorkshire.

In September 2021 CATCH enrolled their first cohort of 10 apprentices in West Yorkshire and are actively recruiting across the Yorkshire and Humber region for candidates ready to commence their career in September 2022. Applications to become a CATCH apprentice are now open and you can apply directly here.

Local renowned employer Syngenta are one of the inaugural companies that selected CATCH Apprenticeships as their provider to deliver the Science Manufacturing Technician standard in West Yorkshire. Training and Apprenticeship Manager Nikita Seabright said;

“Syngenta’s relationship with CATCH has been ongoing over the years in which they have supported and delivered our Work Preparedness Programme to all of our new Apprentices as part of their Induction to our organisation. Their knowledge and expertise of training delivery and apprenticeships is exceptional and we are thrilled to join them in this establishment of Apprenticeship Delivery.

Initial delivery of training has been of a high standard with commendable organisation, planning, communication and training delivery. We have visibility of our Apprentices progression throughout their training and share the same passion with the tutors and programme leaders to develop all learners to the best of their ability which will be invaluable to our organisation and industry.”

James McIntosh, Chief Operating Officer of CATCH added,

“I am delighted to be able to formally launch the CATCH Apprenticeship brand. Becoming an apprenticeship provider is the next evolution of CATCH and builds on the previous 5 years of CATCH Skills delivering high quality employer led training and the extensive experience over the past 20 years of us working with our members closely with their skills, competency & apprenticeship solutions. Feedback has been excellent from employers and learners so far and we look forward to working with all stakeholders as we develop our programme for a September 2022 intake.”

CATCH invites employers to attend an informal breakfast meeting on Monday 13th December at 8.30am at CATCH, Stallingborough. This meeting will provide attendees with an introduction to the CATCH Apprenticeship programme including the recruitment process. To register for the event please click here.  The CATCH delivery team are also planning a host of open evenings throughout 2022, to book please click here.

White-World-Day-for-Safety-and-Health-at-Work-Social-Media-Graphic.png

Keeping your employees up to date with First Aid training can help minimalise risk and reduce risk within the workplace. Understanding CPR can save a life. CPR is the action people take to save a life of someone who could be in cardiac arrest. This comes before a defibrillator; a defibrillator alone cannot save a person’s life.

The more employees trained as First Aiders can help reduce the risk of injury in the workplace and allow the staff members to feel safer. The aim of the first aider is to assist the casualty physically and emotionally and to treat the casualty immediately.

CATCH offer a full 3- day First Aid at Work training course alongside the First Aid 2-day requal. We also offer the 1-day Emergency First Aid at Work.
